Hi and thank you for visiting my food blog, Foodieverse!

This is your one-stop shop for Halal and/or Kosher, alcohol-free recipes from around the world! I love to eat and try out new cuisines. I also love to attempt to replicate those recipes.

Of Bangladeshi origin, I grew up in the Middle East surrounded by Shawerma, Moussaka, Kabsa, Applebee’s, Iskander, Kadhai gosh, Al-Baik, Gado gado, Biryani, Adobo chicken, Fajitas, Wontons…really the list goes on! Because my father enjoyed trying different food outlets and my mom liked stuffing us with new recipes she discovered at home, I was exposed to a myriad of cuisines early on in life.

Following high school, I moved to Malaysia for my undergraduate degree. I was introduced to a new world of flavours. The tangy curries, the spicy soups, and indulging on street side burgers at 1 in the morning became the norm. I was a picky eater and having to fend for myself opened me up to flavours I was not particularly fond of growing up. I don’t regret that one bit!

Taking a 7 month break after graduation is when I passionately started cooking. I started experimenting with flavour combinations and cuisines. I then moved to Australia for my postgraduate studies where I regularly started cooking for myself and my friends. My mom was a great inspiration for me, regularly calling her up for some of her best recipes.

I wanted to start a food blog for the longest time and I was finally motivated to do so early this year (2017) watching the most delectable food videos on Facebook and Youtube. Now, growing up in the Middle East and Malaysia, I didn’t have to worry about finding Halal food, but things changed moving to Australia. There were so many dishes I wanted to try but couldn’t because of pork and because I don’t cook with alcohol. So here I am attempting to share with you Halal and/or Kosher, alcohol-free recipes that everyone can try. All recipes are halal and alcohol-free, but not necessarily kosher. Kosher recipes are noted accordingly in the recipe. From alcohol-free tiramisu to chicken broth based ramen, I hope you try all these world favourites at home!

Food really is the answer to everything. Good news to share? Say it with a Moroccan feast. Angry at work? Some sticky date pudding will cheer you up. Heartbroken? Biryani will never let you down.

So please fasten your seatbelts and hope you enjoy the journey with me around our foodieverse!
