Brazilian Lemonade (Limeade)

Beat the summer heat with one of the easiest Brazilian recipes, a refreshing and tart Brazilian lemonade! This lemonade is actually made from limes but is referred to as lemonade. Don’t dwell on the terminology, sit back, relax and sip on this lime drink that you can enjoy any time of the year.

I picked up a bunch of “odd bunch” limes to make Tom Yum soup (recipe coming soon). I love buying the odd bunch, you can find out why in my Muhammara – Roasted Red Pepper dip post.

Before I got down to making Tom Yum, I ended up making a refreshing, sweet, tart beverage that is an absolute hit with guests. It’s super easy, and while not particularly healthy, it’s the perfect way to beat the heat.

I first tried Brazilian lemonade at a churrascaria, and found the ingredients a little unusual. Condensed milk and lime?! It doesn’t curdle? It doesn’t taste…weird? Nope and nope! It tastes absolutely amazing! I love tart drinks that are sweet at the same time, and who didn’t love eating finger fulls of sweetened condensed milk straight from the can as a kid?

If you haven’t tried many Brazilian recipes, this lemonade is the easiest to start with! The lime drink is very easy to make – cut up some limes, blend with water, strain, then blend with some condensed milk and you’re ready to serve! That’s it! Feel free to add ice while serving. I am not exactly sure why it’s called lemonade and not limeade, but we’ll let the semantics slide.

Keeping on the lime rind adds more zesty tang to the lemonade. If you think it will be too tangy for you or your kids, peel the rind off one of the limes. My friends didn’t think it was overly tangy so I encourage you to leave on the rind.

It’s the perfect beverage to accompany at a BBQ, potluck, picnic or simply to sip by the pool.

Make the perfect summer lemonade today and let me know if you love it as much as I do!
