Ben & Jerry’s was not available in Saudi Arabia until my late teens. And once it was available in markets, it was a “luxury” ice cream, around as pricey as Haagen Daasz. So it was something we indulged in only occasionally. And when we did, Chunky Monkey was our favourite.
Ben & Jerry’s wasn’t popular in Malaysia, I’m not even sure if there were outlets. I was finally reacquainted with Ben & Jerry’s in Australia (still pricey). Luscious banana, crunchy walnuts and extra chocolatey chocolate chips make Chunky Monkey a match made in heaven. With the recent explosion of no churn ice creams, I had to get on board.
And I of course had to start with a funky named flavour, Chunky Monkey! All you need to do is blend bananas, whip cream, add banana, condensed milk, walnuts and chopped chocolate, combine, pour and freeze. You’ll have the creamiest, most indulgent ice cream ready to enjoy.
The cream and condensed milk base can be used for any no churn ice cream and flavour combinations. If you like condensed milk, you may also like my condensed milk and evaporated milk based popsicle, Kulfi. It is an Indian staple during summer.
If you want to make it vegan, skip the cream and condensed milk and replace with 2 more bananas.
I enjoy ice cream all year round so make this before summer ends or even in the peak of winter. Call me crazy but ice cream is comforting for me during winter. But then Australia doesn’t have frostbite inducing winters like Europe or North America so I probably don’t know what I’m talking about. Enjoy!
Make it today because I’m pretty sure you’ll be making your own ice cream for the rest of the year!
