The Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwich - Quattro Formaggi Margherita Sandwich

For National Grilled Cheese Month, I've created the ULTIMATE grilled cheese sandwich that combines four kinds of cheese, merging American and Italian flavours. This will be your go-to family grilled cheese recipe!

  • 2 slices good quality white bread
  • 100 grams sliced bocconcini or mozarella
  • 1 1/2 slices gouda or cheddar
  • 20 grams blue cheese, crumbled or feta
  • 20 grams goat's cheese
  • 3 semi-dried tomatoes, sliced
  • 4 leaves fresh basil
  • 1 tbsp garlic olive oil (keep a clove of garlic in olive oil for 1/2 hour to use in dressings or this sandwich)
  • 2 tsp butter
  1. Place bocconcini, gouda, blue cheese and goat's cheese on a slice of bread. You may use the suggested cheese substitutes instead. 

  2. Place semi-dried tomatoes followed by fresh basil.

  3. Drizzle one side of the second slice of bread with garlic olive oil and place face down on the assembled sandwich. 

  4. Met 1 tsp butter in pan and place sandwich. Toast till golden brown for 2-3 minutes.

  5. Add remaining butter and turn sandwich over. Hold down with spatula or a small plate to melt the cheese properly for 2-3 minutes.

  6. Slice the sandwich in half and watch the melty cheese ooze out. Bellissimo!
